Conditions Commonly Treated

Menstrual Health and Cycle Irregularities

Conditions I commonly treat include painful periods (dysmenorrhoea), irregular or absent cycles (amenorrhoea), heavy bleeding, premenstrual syndrome, and spotting. Treatment typically begins with weekly sessions across two to three cycles, then reduces in frequency as the cycle regulates.

Hormonal Conditions

Fertility Support

PCOS, endometriosis, fibroids, and the hormonal shifts of perimenopause are all complex, long-term conditions that rarely respond to a single intervention. Acupuncture and herbal medicine work alongside whatever medical management is already in place - supporting the nervous system, modulating inflammation, improving pelvic circulation, and addressing the fatigue, mood changes, and sleep disruption that often accompany these conditions.

Perimenopause in particular responds well to regular treatment, with many patients noticing improvements in hot flushes, sleep, and mood within six to eight weeks.

Fertility treatment - whether natural conception or assisted - benefits from a whole-body approach. Acupuncture supports ovarian function, cycle regularity, and uterine lining quality, while herbal medicine addresses underlying patterns that may be affecting conception. For those going through IVF or other assisted reproductive technology, I offer treatment timed to the key stages of a cycle: stimulation, egg collection, and embryo transfer, as well as the waiting period that follows.

Treatment is grounded in classical Chinese medicine but informed by current reproductive research. I work collaboratively with your fertility clinic's plan and can coordinate care around cycle timings and medication protocols.

Pregnant Woman Posing

Pregnancy and Postpartum

Acupuncture is safe throughout pregnancy and addresses many of the physical and emotional challenges that arise - nausea and vomiting in the first trimester, pelvic girdle pain and back pain as the pregnancy progresses, anxiety, fatigue, and disrupted sleep. In the third trimester, I offer birth preparation treatment and moxibustion at acupoint BL67 (Zhiyin) for breech presentation, ideally from around 33–35 weeks.

Postpartum care is often overlooked but is clinically important. Treatment in the weeks after birth supports recovery, milk supply, mood, and the hormonal adjustment that follows delivery. This is one of the most rewarding areas of practice.

Male Fertility

Male factor infertility is implicated in up to half of all couples’ fertility challenges, either alone or alongside female factors. Key sperm parameters, such as motility, morphology and count, can respond well to acupuncture. Because spermatogenesis takes approximately 90 days, a three‑month course of acupuncture and, in some cases, herbal medicine, allows one full cycle for potential improvement. Indications include abnormal semen analysis, partners undergoing assisted reproduction, and preconception optimisation.

Treatment targets include improving testicular circulation, reducing oxidative stress, supporting hormonal balance, and addressing Traditional Chinese Medicine pattern diagnoses. Treatment is commonly combined with targeted nutritional and antioxidant supplementation.  Semen analysis is encouraged both prior to, and after the three month protocol.

Musculoskeletal and Pain

Acupuncture has one of the strongest evidence bases in pain management of any complementary medicine, and is increasingly supported by clinical practice guidelines internationally. I treat acute and chronic pain across the full range of musculoskeletal presentations: neck and back pain, joint pain and osteoarthritis, sports injuries, headaches and migraines, nerve pain including sciatica and carpal tunnel syndrome, and chronic widespread pain conditions including fibromyalgia.

Treatment draws on classical point selection, local needling, and electroacupuncture where appropriate. The aim is not just pain relief but restoring function and movement - and where pain has been present for a long time, addressing the nervous system patterns that perpetuate it.
